ACTION ALERT: It's Time to Speak Up About Cotoni-Coast Dairies!

February 25, 2020

Once again, it's time to take action and share your thoughts on the BLM's three proposed management plan alternatives for Cotoni-Coast Dairies National Monument. The call for public comment is now open until March 19, and the process will help determine the number and type of trails built on the 6,000 acre property.

You can access alternatives A, B, and C via these hyperlinks. Please refer to our talking points and sample letter for MBOSC-approved recommendations for the management and use of this land. MBOSC is not in support of any one alternative as-is, but is advocating for specific elements and trail development plans that align most closely with our mission.

This is the second of three opportunities for the public to provide input on land use on this property. Following this public comment period, the BLM will create a final management plan and share that for public approval this summer. It's important to get involved now because you can only provide input on the final management plan if you have participated in an earlier call for public action.

To get involved, you can:

1. ATTEND A MEETING THIS WEEK ON 3/4 OR 3/5
The BLM has two public meetings this week where they will be seeking input on how the property should be managed. Attend one of these meetings and speak up for trail access!

Wednesday, March 4, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Bonny Doon Union
Elementary School District
1492 Pine Flat Rd. Santa Cruz, CA 95060

Thursday, March 5, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Louden Nelson Community Center,
301 Center St. Santa Cruz, CA 95060

2. WRITE A LETTER BY MARCH 19

If you cannot attend one of the public meetings, please submit a written comment requesting trail access. Written comments will be accepted through March 19. It is more impactful to write your own letter, but you can also download the MBOSC sample letter by clicking here. Submit letters by:

  • Joining MBOSC at the Santa Cruz Bicycles showroom this Friday, 3/6, from 3:30-7:00 p.m. for letter writing and beer!
  • Email: blm_ca_cotoni_coast_[email protected]
  • Fax: 831-582-2266
  • Mail: BLM Central Coast Field Office, Attn: Cotoni-Coast Dairies RMPA/EA, 940 2nd Avenue, Marina, CA 93933-6009
3. SPREAD THE WORD!

Help us spread the word about this project! Post this graphic on social media, and email your friends and coworkers. The more people we have speaking-up for trail access, the better.

Here's a caption you can copy/paste to social media:

Want a say in the number and type of trails built on the Santa Cruz coast? Make your voice heard & impact public access to the Cotoni-Coast Dairies National Monument!

The BLM is now fielding public comment on how the public can access the 6,000-acre property just north of Wilder Ranch.

Now is the time to get involved & speak up for trail access! Public planning is decided by those who show up, and there are easy ways for you to get involved. Attend one of the public meetings below, and come out to Santa Cruz Bicycles this Friday to sign a letter and enjoy a beer on us.
