Important Meeting Tuesday- Please Attend!

October 5, 2017
Hello friends, I wanted to reach out to you about the upcoming City Council meeting on Tuesday, October 10th at 3pm (yes the meeting has been moved from 6pm to noon, and we are estimating the Parks Master Plan will be on the dock around 3pm). After months of meetings, this meeting is the most important, as the City Council is going to approve of the final draft of the 2030 Parks Master Plan before it goes through environmental review, upon which it will receive final approval. The City of Santa Cruz Parks Master Plan draft has changed slightly from its first draft (latest draft is available here, pages 100 and 198 are most relevant). Specific trail concepts have been removed from the document as these proved to be lightning rods for controversy. However, more general language about creating mountain bike specific trails and facilities is preserved in the plan, as well as the call out for a trails assessment study for Pogonip to evaluate next steps for trail development there. It is very important that we as a community show up to this City Council meeting on the 10th to let City Council know that it is now up to them to see that the final draft of the Parks Master Plan addresses mountain biking adequately and that Council gives Parks and Recreation staff a mandate to prioritize the implementation of the elements of the plan that address trail development.
We at MBOSC really hope you will be able to attend this meeting and show your support! Please speak during the open comment period; see sample talking points below.
