East Glenwood Open Space Preserve Soft Opening!

June 25, 2020

We are proud to announce the soft opening of the East Glenwood Open Space Preserve, a project our Trail Crew has been working on throughout 2020! On Saturday, June 27th, the east side of the preserve will be open to hikers, with additional plans for limited equestrian use in the fall. These trails were originally slated to open this past spring, however, due to concerns surrounding COVID-19, the opening had to be put on hold. We thank you for your patience, and hope you head out to East Glenwood to enjoy the fresh trails soon!

We are thrilled to see this new part of the preserve finally opened to the public. For this project, we partnered with the Santa Cruz Land Trust and the City of Scotts Valley to create a network of trails that weave through the valley and hills across Glenwood.

Our Trail Crew spent from January to May of 2020 brushing, benching and building two bridges through this area. One of the bridges they built is a 55’ bridge walk that took 13,200 pounds of concrete for pier footings! This larger bridge connects the main entrance at Siltanen Park to the hiking trail loops at the East Preserve. Different from the west side, the east side of the property is home to cattle, including baby calves. It is also home to a handful of sensitive habitat and species, which is why it will only be open to a limited group of trail users for the time being. Additionally, a handful of these trails are ADA accessible, making East Glenwood a place that truly everyone can visit and enjoy. The flowers are still in bloom and the trails are pristine, so what are you waiting for? Go check out East Glenwood this weekend!
