The County of Santa Cruz Department of Parks, Open Space and Cultural Services, along with Santa Cruz Mountains Trail Stewardship (SCMTS) and District 5 Supervisor Monica Martinez, are pleased to announce a groundbreaking ceremony for a new pump track at Felton Covered Bridge County Park.
WHAT: Felton Covered Bridge County Park Pump Track Groundbreaking Ceremony
WHERE: Graham Hill Road, Felton, CA 95018
WHEN: Thursday, April 23 at 11:00 a.m.
The new pump track will bring safe and fun outdoor recreation to cyclists, skateboarders, scooter riders, and roller skaters of all ages and abilities. The track’s 10,000 square-foot design includes a low-profile, closed loop of paved rollers, jumps, and berms surrounded by split-rail fencing and a robust stormwater management system to contain any track runoff onsite. The sunken nature of the track’s design preserves views of the park’s historic Covered Bridge, and native landscaping will further tie together track features and deliver a cohesive park experience to visitors.
“The proposed pump track at Felton Covered Bridge County Park is an exciting investment in the future of our community. It transforms an underused space into something vibrant, active, and inclusive—giving kids, teens, and families a safe place to build skills, stay active, and connect with each other outdoors,” said County Parks Director Jeff Gaffney.
“Projects like this don’t just add recreation; they strengthen community, support healthy lifestyles, and make our park even more welcoming for the next generation. This is the kind of thoughtful improvement that keeps our public spaces relevant, engaging, and full of life,” said Supervisor Monica Martinez.
We’ve built a number of pump tracks across Santa Cruz County, and each one is a popular destination for families with young children,” said Matt De Young, Executive Director of Santa Cruz Mountains Trail Stewardship. “I’m a Felton resident myself, and am excited to offer San Lorenzo Valley families a new place for outdoor play and fun right in the heart of our town. This pump track will be the first of its kind in the area, and I couldn’t be more proud to bring it to life alongside so many supportive community members.”
In December 2023, the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding between County Parks and SCMTS to support fundraising and construction efforts of the new pump track, which will be donated to the County upon completion.
The groundbreaking marks the start of construction and is one of many collaborative efforts between County Parks and Santa Cruz Mountains Trail Stewardship. Construction will begin the week after the groundbreaking ceremony, but community support is still needed as SCMTS raises the last 10% of the project budget. SCMTS’ professional Trail Crew will lead the construction effort, and select volunteer opportunities will welcome the community to lend a hand with track development.
Making a donation via SCMTS’ Felton Pump Track webpage is the best way for members of the public to support pump track development today. Visit santacruztrails.org/feltonpt to make a tax-deductible donation today.
