FELTON PUMP TRACK SET TO OPEN SEPTEMBER 26
Local nonprofit Santa Cruz Mountains Trail Stewardship and Santa Cruz County Parks will host a grand opening celebration for the new track; volunteers are invited to help complete landscaping on September 12.
SANTA CRUZ, CALIF. – Santa Cruz Mountains Trail Stewardship (SCMTS), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit trail stewardship organization, today announced that the Felton Pump Track, a joint project with Santa Cruz County Parks, will officially open on Saturday, September 26. The nonprofit will host a grand opening celebration on that date in Felton Covered Bridge County Park from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., complete with games, food trucks, and first laps around the track with project leadership. All members of the public are welcome to attend the grand opening celebration, and may RSVP here to secure their spot.
“Opening a pump track in the San Lorenzo Valley is a dream come true,” said Matt De Young, Executive Director of Santa Cruz Mountains Trail Stewardship. “With nothing like it in the area, The Felton Pump Track fills an essential gap in the region, and will help so many kids and families throughout the area have fun outside together, grow their bike skills, and connect with their neighbors. We’re grateful to the donors who supported this track, and honored to gift it to the Felton community.”
Volunteer at the Felton Pump Track
The SCMTS team is seeking volunteers to help put the finishing touches on the Felton Pump Track. The nonprofit will host a volunteer event to install native landscaping and mulch throughout the track on Saturday, September 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. All ages are welcome and no prior experience is required to volunteer. Space is limited; learn more about the event and sign up as a volunteer here.
“The Felton Covered Bridge Pump Track is a remarkable addition to our county park system and a powerful example of what can be accomplished through strong partnerships,” said County Parks Deputy Director Rebecca Hurley. “This project would not be possible without the leadership, expertise, and unwavering commitment of Santa Cruz Mountains Trail Stewardship. Working together, we transformed an underused area into a vibrant community asset that will soon provide children, teens, families, and riders of all skill levels with a welcoming place to build confidence, stay active, and enjoy the outdoors. We are also grateful for the support of the many volunteers, donors, and community members who helped make this vision a reality. We look forward to celebrating this milestone with the community and recognizing a collaboration that has created a lasting destination for recreation, connection, and healthy outdoor activity in the San Lorenzo Valley for generations to come.”
