Important Announcement: All Events and OCC Registration Postponed Until Further Notice

March 16, 2020

Community is everything to our team. There's nothing we love more than bringing people together for valuable educational and outdoor experiences. At this time, however, we must be mindful of our impact on overall public health and prioritize the safety of all staff members and event attendees.

To limit the spread of the novel COVID-19 pandemic and prioritize the health of our community, our team is canceling all events for the foreseeable future, including Trail Academy classes, Dig Days, drop-in trailwork, and community events. We are also postponing registration for the Old Cabin Classic as we monitor this public health crisis.

Our hearts are with the global communities that are currently affected by this virus, and we wish all a speedy recovery.

Our office staff are working from home for the time being, and we ask that any office visitors be mindful of this and reach out to our team digitally with any urgent questions or concerns.

We're hoping to host events again soon, and are keeping a close eye on the situation to understand when we can safely move forward with planned activities. We appreciate your understanding and patience in the meantime.

On the bright side, our Trail Crew is still hard at work out in the field every day. We are implementing additional safety measures to keep these folks healthy, and are pleased to continue to provide trail construction and maintenance services during this challenging time.

If you have a question about a specific event or activity, please reach out to the appropriate MBOSC contact listed below.

Old Cabin Classic

We are postponing registration for the 2020 Old Cabin Classic for the time being, and are currently in communication with local agencies to stay on top of all COVID-19 updates. We are thinking of the communities affected by the virus, and we are very hopeful that we will all be happy and healthy by May 30. Please look out for updates via our social media channels, website and newsletter.

If you have questions about this event, please reach out to [email protected].

Trail Academy, Dig Days, and Drop-in Trailwork

All of the above events are canceled until further notice. We hope to bring these events back as soon as possible and will share announcements online, via social media, and here in this newsletter regularly.

If you have any questions about these events, please reach out to [email protected].

Advocacy and Community Events

To prioritize the health of our community, we are canceling all community and advocacy events moving forward. If you have a specific question about events of this type, please reach out to [email protected].

How You Can Support Trails Right from Your Couch

Despite the strange situation around us, there are still effective ways you can support trails from home. Two important campaigns are still open, and we need outdoor enthusiasts like yourself to take action now to make an impact on future trail development. Find more info below:

New Campaign Alert! Support Local Trails & Win a Caletti

Have you always dreamed of having a bike hand made just for you? Well, to further promote MBOSC’s efforts to improve trail access in Santa Cruz, John Caletti of Caletti Cycles is giving away an amazing custom steel frame to one lucky supporter of MBOSC!

For every $10 you contribute to support MBOSC, you’ll be entered into a drawing to win a custom Caletti Cycles steel frame. Every dollar you pitch in goes directly to trails in Santa Cruz! We set a goal of raising $15,000 through this campaign. Will you help us achieve our goal?

The winner can pick any type of frame (mountain, gravel, road, etc.), and has the option of upgrading their frame from Steel to Titanium for a fee. The chance to win a custom-built, one-of-a-kind bike is rare - what are you waiting for?

Last Chance to Act! Speak Up for Trails at Cotoni-Coast Dairies

The period for public comment on Cotoni-Coast Dairies (CCD) is coming to a close and we want to make sure your voice is heard. The CCD is about the same size as Wilder Ranch State Park, and is essential in providing connectivity between the planned 30 miles of trails at San Vicente Redwoods and the coast.

Our events over the past few weeks have been very successful and we are proud to have sent over 200 letters to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). While we are done hosting events, the period for public comment doesn’t end until March 19th, meaning you still have time to send a letter! Not a resident of Santa Cruz? CCD is owned by the BLM, making it federal land open to public comment from all U.S. residents. You can find our sample letter here if you’d like guidance on important points to include, and want to access the BLM’s email and physical addresses. For more information, visit our full project page here.
