MBOSC Launches Trail Academy!
September 10, 2018
We are so excited to introduce the brand new MBOSC Trail Academy! If you're interested in learning more about stewarding trails, this is for you!
The MBOSC Trail Academy is a program to build trail stewardship skills within the trail user community and grow the size and skill level of our volunteer labor force. A range of courses is offered to meet the needs of first-timers as well as trail building veterans. We’re offering classes covering all aspects of trail-building, from the natural history of trails and volunteer management, to rock armoring and advanced dirt shaping.
Classroom sessions are offered on week nights at the UCSC Arboretum in Santa Cruz, and at REI in Saratoga. Field classes will take place in varying open space areas around Santa Cruz County primarily on Saturdays. Students who take the first seven classes and participate in five trail work events qualify to join our team of Trail Crew Leaders and help guide volunteers on our large Dig Day events. Classes are limited to 20 participants and free to the public. We encourage all trail users, hikers, runners, equestrians, and cyclists alike to take our courses! Youth under age 18 are welcome to participate but must be accompanied by a legal guardian.
