You might be dying to go on that group ride with all your pals, but you’ve wisely decided to hold off and keep your community healthy. With that in mind, the MBOSC staff has created a book and podcast list that should help you bring the joy of the outdoors into your living room. Enjoy!

Dirt Work: An Education in the Woods recounts Byl’s experience working for the National Parks as a trail worker and later trail crew leader. She also explores the notion of gendered work and what it means to be a woman doing trailwork.

Natural Surface Trail by Design is all about the art and science behind trail design. It explains how to build a sustainable and enjoyable trail for all users. This book has a lot of foundational knowledge that we touch on in our Trail Academy classes!

Zinn and the Art of Road Bike Maintenance
This book will walk you through every step of bike repair and maintenance, plus it has illustrations to guide you through.
The Inside Line by Vital Mtb covers all things racing, how to’s and interviews riders and industry folks.
Until Sunset by Anthill Films explores what goes into capturing the sounds behind the mountain bike films we know and love by interviewing the riders.

Books for Trailbuilders
Moving Heavy Things by Jan Adkins Moving Heavy Things is about well, moving heavy things. It explores moving heavy objects without machines and gives different examples using pictures to guide you through it. If you’ve ever moved a stringer log (or haven’t and want to learn how), this is the book for you! On Trails: An Exploration by Robert Moor In On Trails: An Exploration Moors works to answer the following questions about trails; “How do they form? Why do some improve over time while others fade? What makes us follow or strike off on our own?” Moor does this by traveling different traill networks and analyzing them using science, history and philosophy.

Mastering Mountain Bike Skills By Brain Lopes and Lee McCormack Want to improve your mountain bike skills? This book will walk you through racing, skills, technique and confidence-building. Gravel Cycling by Nick Legan Gravel Cycling will walk you through everything you need to know about gravel cycling and bike packing. It also has gear, route and bike set-up recommendations
