Milestone: First Dig Day of the Season, First Dig Day Outside of Santa Cruz

November 18, 2019
Last Saturday over sixty volunteers joined MBOSC and Santa Clara County Parks trail staff for our first Dig Day of the season at Calero County Park. This was a very special day for MBOSC, as it was our first Dig Day outside of Santa Cruz County. The weather and views were beautiful, but without a hint of rain this year, the dirt was still rock-hard (or rocky) and conditions were dry and dusty, however that didn't slow enthusiasm for digging. Volunteers cut backslope, finish-raked the tread, and treated the sidecast on about half a mile of the new Oak Cove Trail. Two other crews wrestled with large rocks to armor drainage crossings. This trail provides a multi-use connection from the main Calero park entrance to the Rancho San Vicente entrance, and will be part of a large multi-use loop within the park. We were excited to help them get the trail done this year, and we look forward to partnering in the future. Massive thanks to Silicon Valley Mountain Bikers for sponsoring the Dig Day, and much appreciation to Verve Coffee for their part in fueling our volunteers.
