Mountain Bike to Work Day was a Hit!

May 13, 2019
Words by Emma Ussat Each year Ecology Action puts on Bike to Work Day in Santa Cruz County as a part of Bike Month, a nationwide celebration of sustainable transportation. On Bike to Work Day, businesses and organizations sponsor “breakfast sites” where cyclists can stop and enjoy a free breakfast for riding their bike. This year Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz wanted to get involved, so we decided to host our first ever Mountain Bike to Work Day breakfast site! Ecology Action was quick to help us out and even made a special graphic just for us! We are very thankful the City of Santa Cruz Parks and Recreation Department permitted us to host our breakfast site at the Emma McCrary Trailhead. Since it was our first year, we wanted to offer a unique menu to attract folks to this new site. We served hot french toast with all the fixin’s, chicken apple sausage, hard boiled eggs, beautiful fruit salad platters, piping hot coffee, orange juice, and more. Almost sixty mountain bikers and dirt commuters stopped by for their breakfast fix! We kept the country jams and smiles going all morning. What a great way to celebrate active transportation! Thanks to all MBOSC volunteers and staff who made this possible. Special shoutout to Julie Ussat for donating materials, ingredients, and hours of her time preparing and cooking this delicious breakfast!
