On Saturday, September 22, MBOSC hosted the Pinto Lake Pumptrack Volunteer Day to show our support for the County of Santa Cruz and Action Sports Construction on their feat of building Watsonville's first pumptrack. When we arrived at 8:00am to set up, there were already a handful of student's from Project Bike Tech waiting to help out.
By the time the work day started, forty-five minutes later, twenty students had already arrived and were wheelbarrowing mulch to the pumptrack. The stream of volunteers arriving was constant.

It was truly a community effort. Paul from Coffeeville Watsonville brought 12 boxes of donuts and other treats, in addition to coffee, parents of students brought water, Jules from Watsonville Cyclery brought 100 hot dogs and fixings, Tawn from Bike Santa Cruz County brought a smoothie-making-bicycle-contraption, and 40 volunteers brought good vibes.

After the mulching, jute-netting installation, and finishing touches were completed, everyone took a turn on the new pumptrack! Upon dropping in, it became obvious this pumptrack is special. "It's crushed granite” Alex Fowler of Action Sports Construction explained. The pumptrack was as hard as pavement, which made for a smooth, fast ride.

There were folks of all ages taking turns riding the track. Smiles, hoots, and hollers all around. All this to say, there was an abundance of excitement from the community, proving the importance of places for communities to recreate. We want to thank the County of Santa Cruz for recognizing this and making it possible, and hand over our kudos to Action Sports Construction for building this impressive pumptrack! The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held in mid October.
