Recap: Dig Day Sponsored By Family Cycling Center in SDSF!

May 30, 2017
Last Saturday was a very special day for MBOSC- it was the first Dig Day in Soquel Demonstration State Forest in months, and 70 eager volunteers signed up to help! We were lucky to be joined by Angela Bernheisiel, Forest Manager, who updated us on the state of the forest, and enlightened us on the hard work it took to get the roadways back in shape. CAL FIRE is working towards having the forest open the first weekend in June. Stay tuned! The closure of the forest during the wet season proved to be a game-changer in the preservation of the trails. Our focus on Saturday was the Flow Trail. Most of the day was spent patching small holes in berms and opening drains, otherwise the Flow Trail is in good shape, draining well and avoiding erosion, which is a testament to its sustainable construction. After we wrapped up trail work for the day some lucky folks got to test ride our work, while the rest of us headed back to the parking lot for ice cold refreshments, snacks, games, and a sweet raffle. See photos from the Dig Day by Bruce Dorman here! A big thanks to Family Cycling Center for sponsoring the Dig Day, and to all of our other sponsors for keeping our volunteers happy: Velocity Bike Parks, Verve Coffee Roasters, and Ibis Cycles.
