Recap: Tool Maintenance Party Prepares MBOSC for the Busy Season Ahead
October 30, 2017
On Saturday, October 28, Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz hosted a Tool Maintenance Party at Geo H. Wilson to prepare our fleet of equipment for the upcoming Dig Day season.
We hosted this event before the 2016/2017 Dig Day season as well, and it proved to be valuable and fun. This year, it was even better. We had over twenty volunteers come out and work in groups doing different projects. Some folks were grinding, others were painting, more were organizing, and so on.
The tools and equipment are looking better than ever, with a new level of organization. We are so grateful for everyone who joined us and helped streamline our Dig Day season. See below for more photos and highlights of the day.
Big thank you to Tom Wilson of Geo H. Wilson for always offering your work space for events and helping with organization, and thank you to all the volunteers who participated!
We worked at stations- pictured here folks are painted green and yellow strips on tools so that when we use other land managers' equipment we can keep track of our fleet.
Tom Eagleton, longtime MBOSC volunteer, stands with two finished tools- by finished that means they have been cleaned, sharpened, greased, and painted. They are ready to go into the trailer.
Patrick Alvidrez is a teacher for Project Bike Tech and key player at Cycleworks Santa Cruz. He is in our 2017 Trail Crew Leader Training Course and hopes to pass his knowledge on to his students. We are so happy to have him aboard the MBOSC Volunteership.
Bruce Dorman is an absolute MBOSC key player. He has been a longtime volunteer, and played a really important role since the building of the Flow Trail. He was one of our top volunteers in 2016/2017, working over 60 hours. He recently painted our truck tool box. Thanks Bruce!
Former President Mark Davidson and Kathy King working together, not for the first time. Two awesome volunteers who have helped us with many projects.
New board member Brian Peterson basking in the glow of a clean tool trailer. Brian is new to the board, but not to MBOSC. He has served as our Bike Park liaison for years, helping us get more bike park projects going.
Always great to see Liam Ruff. Liam is the team captain of UCSC's Cycling Team. We are working with Liam to host another student-oriented Dig Day on President's Day.
Former, former president Geoff Smith, and current Trail Crew Leader trainee, Matt Wilbur, installing an amazing custom flag organizer. No more flags flying all over the trailer!
Leslie Chow, current Trail Crew Leader trainee, always offering to lend a hand with a smile!
Andrea Lee, one of MBOSC's most dedicated volunteers, worked more than 80 hours last season. Andrea is the best.
Executive Director, Matt De Young, can't hide his excitement and gratitude!
Here at MBOSC, we work really hard, but we also take time to enjoy our work and talk about it over cold refreshments and good food.
Cheers!
