The nonprofit trails organization was hired by East Bay Regional Park District to build Valle Vista Trail in Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park.

SANTA CRUZ, CA - August 12, 2024 - Santa Cruz Mountains Trail Stewardship (SCMTS), a 501(c)(3) stewardship organization, has broken ground on Valle Vista Trail working for East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD). This new 1-mile trail will serve hikers, cyclists, and equestrians.

SCMTS is excited to bring their decades of experience building trails to help enhance recreational opportunities within the East Bay Area while also reducing impacts within parklands from off-trail travel and illegal construction of trails.

“We are honored to be a part of this project,” said Matt De Young, Executive Director of Santa Cruz Mountains Trail Stewardship. “It’s great to see East Bay Regional Park District building progressive, new trails that put a premium on the user experience for mountain bikers and other trail users.”

This project also generates support for underfunded public trails projects in the Santa Cruz Mountains, as all revenue from Valle Vista will be channeled into SCMTS’ nonprofit trail work and volunteer events.

“We’re really excited for this new trail to enhance access and improve visitor experiences at Pleasanton Ridge, and we couldn’t have asked for a better partner than SCMTS” said Sean Connelly, Trails Coordinator with East Bay Regional Park District.

The Valle Vista Trail is one of many planned trails to be added to the 9,090-acre Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park. The trail will be constructed within an area of the park that is open to the public, and trail users will still have access to the trails in the surrounding area during construction.

Interested parties may follow along for trail construction updates and additional access information via SCMTS’ newsletter, Facebook, and Instagram.
