ACTION ALERT! SLV/Hwy 9 Complete Streets Public Meetings

January 28, 2019
Our friends at Bike Santa Cruz County are advocating for better pedestrian and cycling infrastructure in the San Lorenzo Valley. They have shared some great information on the Regional Transportation Commissions proposed plan, which we're reposting here. The plan includes a multi-use path connecting the town of Felton to Henry Cowell State Park, which will greatly improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians accessing the park. Plug into one of the upcoming meetings or submit a comment to help out!

SLV/Hwy 9 Complete Streets Public Meetings

The Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) will be conducting two public meetings in the next few weeks to gather input on their draft SLV/Hwy 9 Complete Streets Plan. The SLV/Highway 9 Complete Streets Plan outlines infrastructure projects on Highway 9 that will improve bike and pedestrian safety in Felton, Ben Lomond, Brookdale, and Boulder Creek. Projects include improved bike and pedestrian access to Henry Cowell State Park, improved crosswalks and bike lanes in Downtown Felton, redesign of Highway 9 and Graham Hill intersection, and a bike/ped connection to the San Lorenzo Valley schools campus. Read the plan here: San Lorenzo Valley / Highway 9 Corridor Plan.
Bike Santa Cruz County's highest priority projects are:
  1. A multi-use path on the west side of Highway 9 from the High School entrance to Fall Creek Drive (short-term) and Clearview Place (mid-term)
  2. Restripe highway vehicle lanes at the school campus entrance to provide the addition of bike lanes with green lane treatments
  3. Enhanced trail bypass of Highway 9 via Hacienda Way connecting the middle school to Brackney Road
  4. Widen shoulders for a trail on the east side of Highway 9 at Russell Avenue and add bike lanes from Laurel Drive improving access to the Henry Cowell State Park entrance
Please attend a meeting to voice your support!
