Soquel Demonstration State Forest Weekday Reopening

October 14, 2024
Soquel Demonstration State Forest is set to reopen on weekdays Wednesday 10/16/24. Please see the full press release for all info.

Key Notes:
- Timber operations have been completed across 320-acres in the Sulphur Timber Harvesting Plan (THP) area.

- 347-acres of forest health and fuel reduction treatments were also completed.

- Major road repairs and improvements involving a large watercourse crossing replacement, emergency repairs to one permanent bridge and 4.3 miles of road rocking along the main road were completed to improve access and the resilience of forest infrastructure.

- Corral Trail and Corral Road will remain closed through the winter season and will reopen in the Spring when soil conditions are appropriate.

- No recreational use is allowed in the area of the Sulphur THP delineated on the map and posted with signage. This area will reopen in the Summer of 2025.

Thank you to everyone who respected the closure over the past several months. The weekday closure allowed this work to take place within one season versus the need for various closures over the course of multiple years. Please remember to pay attention to the weather when planning a visit to the forest and recreate when conditions are appropriate. We are starting regular maintenance and preparation for winter storms asap.
