The transition from the top of Mt Ashland to the start of stage one is about a two mile ride. Along the way riders are treated to mountain vistas.[/caption]
Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz (MBOSC) would like to start working with UC Santa Cruz to include legal, sustainable and safe mountain bike trails in their “Long-Range Development Plan 2020” which is currently in the planning stages.

We are reaching out to members of the UCSC community – faculty, students and staff – who would be interested in helping to advocate this cause. A Joint Senate/Administrative Forum on the Long Range Development Plan is scheduled for Thursday, November 16th, 2017 from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm in the Stevenson Event Center.
The purpose of this forum is to inform and consult with the faculty about the current LRDP planning process. Faculty engagement in this process is important so that the land use designations for 2040 are consistent with strategic academic priorities. For background, you can visit the LRDP 2020 website http://lrdp.ucsc.edu/index. html. If you have questions prior to the event, they can be sent to [email protected]. There may also be opportunity to speak briefly at the Forum to show your support for mountain biking on campus. The Senate Chair approves of speakers prior to the meeting. But, if she opens the floor for comments, we believe that attendees can make statements/ask questions.
Sample talking points:
- Mountain biking is popular on campus with students, faculty and the local community
- Trails provide recreational opportunities and a training venue for UCSC’s championship-winning mountain bike team
- Legal, safe and sustainable trails will reduce user conflict, environmental damage, and improve public safety
- Trails on campus would provide connectivity with trails in Pogonip and Wilder Ranch State Park to create a legal regional trail network
- Trail planning, construction and maintenance in adjacent State and City Parks has been primarily done by skilled volunteer labor and can similarly be done on campus at little or no cost to UC.
