What to Expect When Volunteering During COVID
August 13, 2020
Since the onset of COVID-19 restrictions this March, our team has been hard at work to bring back the volunteering opportunities you know and love in a safe and responsible way. We've added new procedures and precautions to our operating standards, and we hope that the below information gives prospective volunteers a peek at what they can expect when joining us out in the field for trail maintenance. Read through the below expectations and check out the volunteering opportunities listed at the bottom of this article to get back out there with us as we keep both our trails and our community safe.
What to Expect at an MBOSC Trail Work Event During COVID-19 Pandemic:
- Minimized group sizes. We will not have more than 10 people, including staff and volunteers, together at a time. You'll get plenty of 1:1 attention as you develop your trail maintenance skills.
- Everyone will keep their distance. Volunteers and staff will keep a minimum of 6’ of distance between each other before beginning trail work. When we start working, we will all maintain at least 10’ of distance during physical exertion.
- You'll have to bring your own protective gear. Please bring a mask that covers your mouth and nose, a helmet (bike helmet is fine), and gloves. We recommend bringing an extra handkerchief for sneezes, coughs, and snot rockets.
- Please bring your own food and water. To ensure the safety of our volunteers, we will not be providing any food or beverages at our events.
- We sanitize frequently! We expect all volunteers to bring their own hand sanitizer or 60+% alcohol spray and wash their hands as much as possible. It is required that all volunteers wash their hands after eating, using the restroom, or touching any shared items.
- We require all volunteers to read our full COVID-19 Protocol before attending. You'll have a little bit of homework before joining us in the field, but you can feel safe knowing that all other volunteers are up to speed on safety precautions.
- Finally, if you’re feeling sick, please stay home! If you are feeling unwell or experiencing any symptoms, please do not attend our events. You should also stay home if you know or believe you have been exposed to someone with COVID-19.
