Why Join as a Business Member?

November 24, 2021
Recently we reached out to some of our very first members to inquire about their experience in the program and to give them a well-deserved shoutout for supporting their local trails.

Here at Santa Cruz Mountains Trail Stewardship we highly value our business members and the ways in which they contribute to supporting local trails. Our Business Member program is an annual membership, $300 per year, where business owners can showcase their commitment to preserving and expanding outdoor access in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Business Owners receive a window decal and a table tent to show off their support of local trails!

Now let’s hear from our wonderful members …

Why did you choose to become an SCMTS Business Member?

  • Moved By Bikes: To support the great work the Club is doing of course!

  • Ethos Santa Cruz: We believe that supporting and maintaining trails to make exploring nature accessible to as many folks as possible is so important! Our connection to our world, to our beautiful surroundings is what it's all about and we feel that the work of SCMTS makes this possible.

  • Tina-Lise Curtis, DDS: Mountain biking is the preferred outside activity of our family. Super important to us that there are safe trail options in Santa Cruz.

  • Karon Properties: We live here, we work here, and we play here! Many of our brokers utilize the local trails regularly, and giving back is a meaningful way to say "thank you!" and to continue enjoying our amazing natural resources for years to come.

  • The Ride Guides: To personally increase my support of SCMTS' work and demonstrate the same to the public.

  • Couch Potato: I've supported MBOSC and now SCMTS at a personal level for a few years and value their work. The cost was incredibly reasonable for the exposure.

Can you tell us a little bit about your business? How long have you been in business, what products do you sell, etc?

  • Moved By Bikes: We are celebrating a decade of making the best surf racks and event stands in the industry. We are passionate about helping people.

  • Ethos Santa Cruz: Ethos is a low-waste living shop and refillery on Amah Mutsun Land in beautiful Capitola, California. We focus on curating refillable and reusable alternatives to disposables that help put an end to throwaway culture. Our work is rooted in our local community to encourage conscious consumerism that is fun, approachable, and aligned with our ethos. We are approaching our 3 year anniversary!

  • Tina-Lise Curtis, DDS: Family and Cosmetic Dentist! I've been a dentist for almost 30 years. Love taking care of patients, helping them to have healthy mouths and therefore healthier lives. Clean, Sparkly teeth generally mean better general health so our goal is to get people to this point.

  • Karon Properties: Karon Properties is a local family owned boutique real estate brokerage specializing in real estate sales and property management. We have been skillfully brokering real estate transactions and giving back to the Santa Cruz community for 35 years. We work here, we play here, we live here!

  • The Ride Guides: TRG has been teaching mountain biking skills and guiding clients in the Santa Cruz Mountains for over 7 years.

  • Couch Potato: Founded in 1988, I've been the owner since 2018. We sell custom, made-to-order furniture.

Would you recommend or encourage being a Business Member or Sponsor to other businesses in Santa Cruz? Why?

  • Moved By Bikes: Absolutely, no regrets. It feels great supporting a group that is making such a big impact in our community, and the member perks seal the deal!

  • Ethos Santa Cruz: Yes we would! What SCMTS does, we believe, is taken for granted. Restoring, maintaining and creating our county's trails is so important to our ability to get out there and explore!

  • Tina-Lise Curtis, DDS: Yes! Good trails don't happen without effort and SCMTS makes this happen.

  • Karon Properties: Absolutely! The feeling of giving back is worth its weight in gold!

  • The Ride Guides: I would recommend that any business in the health and outdoor business community support SCMTS to improve access to the outdoors for their clients.

  • Couch Potato: Yes. The giving amount is incredibly reasonable and it's a cause that resonates with a huge portion of the community.

What value have trails brought to your life? Why do you think it's important to support local stewardship?

  • Moved By Bikes: We are spoiled by having such a great trail network right here in our backyard. There's no substitute for getting out of town on a good trail, for a ride or hike, or a little of both. And we have to support the local groups that are building and maintaining our trail network!

  • Ethos Santa Cruz: Who hasn't enjoyed the smooth flow of an awesome downhill track or felt the warmth of the sun on their face while walking amongst the redwoods. That's what trails give us!

  • Tina-Lise Curtis, DDS: The trails bring joy from being outside and having fun with friends and family. Funding is essential to this.

  • Karon Properties: I'm outside on the trails 2-3 times per week. It's my escape, my therapy, my exercise, and my meditation. It's not only a health necessity, but it's a social necessity as a place where I can commune with friends and family in a safe, outdoor setting.

  • The Ride Guides: My life revolves around engaging in the outdoors, both for business and personal recreation. Local stewardship not only continues to improve access but also allows me to have a direct impact on those projects.

  • Couch Potato: Hard work and an appreciation for the outdoors.
