Today, Santa Cruz Mountains Trail Stewardship (Santa Cruz Trails or SCMTS), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, launched its annual “Support Trails + Win Any Santa Cruz” sweepstakes in conjunction with Santa Cruz Bicycles. Entries are $5 each, and every dollar goes towards trail projects and programs that support Santa Cruz’s legendary mountain bike trails. Bike Trail Improvements on Deck
In last year’s sweepstakes, SCMTS and Santa Cruz Bicycles raised just over $60,000 for local trails – this year’s goal remains the same as the nonprofit has its eyes on major trail improvement needs ahead. Projects that this fundraiser supports include:
• Pump track improvements: SCMTS’ team will resurface the popular Westside Pump Track (right outside the Santa Cruz factory!) this fall and dig into a new and improved layout of the legendary Harvey West Pump Track later this year.
• Looming El Niño storm response: SCMTS is keeping a close watch on the incoming winter storms – it’s looking like there could be some strong weather in the mountains. This winter, SCMTS will have its Trail Crew at the ready for emergency response to clear trees, repair drains, and keep trails as open and safe as possible.
• Ongoing maintenance of 70+ miles of trail: From Wilder Ranch to Pogonip and Cotoni-Coast Dairies, your entry fuels the "invisible" work that keeps trails in great shape. SCMTS proactively monitors trail issues and completes preventative maintenance so that local networks remain safe and fun.
• Super-secret trail reimagining project: SCMTS has a big trail project on deck that will transform some of the most beloved trails in Santa Cruz County. We can’t share more on that just yet, but stay tuned for more in the months to come.
