Glenwood Preserve Trails

COMPLETED IN 2020

SCMTS built trails for cyclists, hikers and equestrians in partnership with the Land Trust of Santa Cruz County at the Glenwood Open Space Preserve in Scotts Valley.

Did you know that you can access six miles of trails full of lush meadows, wildflower blooms, and breathtaking views right from the heart of Scotts Valley?

From 2018 to 2020, SCMTS and volunteers completed just over six miles of new public multi-use trails at the Glenwood Open Space Preserve in Scotts Valley. These trails provide local schools and the community a new resource for recreation and connection with the environment.

The Land Trust of Santa Cruz County, responsible for stewarding the property, hired SCMTS to perform the trail design and construction. Our very own Drew Perkins, Trails Program Manager, performed the trail design, and our trail crew managed the construction of trails. Fee-for-service work like this funds non-profit trail development throughout the Santa Cruz Mountains

The work in Glenwood includes three miles of multi-use trails on the west side of the preserve, and just over three miles of trails on the east side. There are many unique grassland plants and animals that live on the east side of the preserve, which are managed by restoration focused cattle grazing to promote the habitats they require. Because of the sensitive habitats and presence of cattle, the eastern preserve trails are not open to bicycles or dogs, but they are amazing for hiking and trail running!

Glenwood Bell Box Program

If you ride in the Glenwood Preserve, you can now borrow a bell from the bell box to help others hear you as you enjoy everything that the trails have to offer. You can either return the bell to the box when you're done using it, or you can make a $6 donation to support this program.
