Pogonip Nature Loop Bridge Turns Three!
It's officially been three years since we finished building the redwood bridge on the Pogonip Nature Loop Trail. Have you gotten out there to see our work?
It took hundreds of hours of volunteer time to replace the old bridge that was rotting from the inside out and replace it with beautiful redwood timber that's built to stand the test of time.
The wood needed for the new bridge could have cost thousands of dollars, but our team got crafty and cut the cost by milling the lumber out of a fallen redwood that was partially blocking the trail. The lumber was milled onsite using an Alaskan chainsaw mill provided by one of our volunteers.
Over the years, we've continued to keep the Nature Loop in great shape. Our staff and volunteers head out to Pogonip about once a quarter to check in on the Nature Loop and bridge and complete a little trail maintenance. Last April, we cleared drains, repaired tread, brushed the trail, and cleaned up the dusty interpretive signs. Thank you to everyone who's contributed to keeping this trail in great shape!
Pogonip Nature Loop is one of our favorite places to hike and trail run. If you haven't had a chance to visit, we hope you get out there soon! Check out the Trailforks map below for a peek at the location.
